Abstract: The book tells the story of two women’s friendship: they are of the same age, and they are both born and raised in Madrid, Spain. One of them is an anthropologist who has studied and worked in major universities in the UK, conducted fieldwork with Gitanos in Madrid, and published influential studies about them; the other is a Gitana who has hosted and taught the anthropologist, and who, twenty years into her exemplary marriage, decides to run away with a much younger Moroccan immigrant.
